TRAVEL TIPS

Getting Here

Venice's Aeroporto Marco Polo serves international destinations. You can get to from the airport to Venice's historic center by bus to Piazzale Roma (€6), from where you can get a vaporetto, or by ferry to San Marco and other landing stages around the city (€15). A motoscafo (water taxi) is another option, but you'll spend about €60 for a short trip in town. However, a water taxi can carry up to 14 passengers, so if you’re traveling in a group, it may not be that much more expensive than a bus or ferry. Trains from throughout Italy and the rest of Europe arrive at Venice’s Santa Lucia station, on the Grand Canal with a vaporetto stop right in front. If you’re arriving by car, Venice is at the end of SR11, just off the east–west A4 autostrada; you’ll have to leave your car at one of the garages on the outskirts of the city.
